  1. Sincerity (Luke 12:1-3; Matthew 16:12; Isaiah 29:13-14)
  2. Fear (Luke 12:4-5; Ezekiel 28:18-19; Isaiah 34:8-10; Jeremiah 17:27; Jude 7; 2 Peter 2:6; Malachi 4:1,4; Matthew 25:41,46)
  3. Devotion (Luke 12:8-12; John 16:8; John 15:26; Rowland Taylor Pics)

Luke 12:1-3

1 Meanwhile, the crowds grew until thousands were milling about and stepping on each other. Jesus turned first to his disciples and warned them, "Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees—their hypocrisy. 2 The time is coming when everything that is covered up will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all. 3 Whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be shouted from the housetops for all to hear!

Matthew 16:12 (theory)

12 Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Isaiah 29:13-14 (practice)

13 And so the Lord says, "These people say they are mine. They honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. And their worship of me is nothing but man-made rules learned by rote. 14 Because of this, I will once again astound these hypocrites with amazing wonders. The wisdom of the wise will pass away, and the intelligence of the intelligent will disappear."

Luke 12:4-5

4 "Dear friends, don't be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot do any more to you after that. 5 But I'll tell you whom to fear. Fear God, who has the power to kill you and then throw you into hell. Yes, he's the one to fear.

Ezekiel 28:18-19 (NKJV)

18 Therefore I brought fire from your midst; It devoured you, and I turned you to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all who saw you. 19 All who knew you among the peoples are astonished at you; You have become a horror, and shall be no more forever.

Isaiah 34:8-10 (NKJV)

10 It shall not be quenched night or day; Its smoke shall ascend forever.

Jeremiah 17:27 (NKJV)

I will kindle a fire in its gates, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.

Jude 7 (NKJV)

7 Sodom and Gomorrah...are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

2 Peter 2:6

6 and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly.

Malachi 4:1,4 (NKJV)

1 "For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, and all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up,” says the Lord of hosts, “That will leave them neither root nor branch...they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet."

Matthew 25:41,46 (NKJV)

41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.' 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Luke 12:8-12

8 I tell you the truth, everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, the Son of Man will also acknowledge in the presence of God's angels. 9 But anyone who denies me here on earth will be denied before God's angels.10 Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. 11 And when you are brought to trial in the synagogues and before rulers and authorities, don't worry about how to defend yourself or what to say, 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what needs to be said.

John 16:8

8 And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God's righteousness, and of the coming judgment.

John 15:26

26 But I will send you the Advocate—the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me.
