JESUS BANQUET
by Pastor Mike Fortune
April 8, 2017

  1. It's not about the food (Luke 14:15-16; Revelation 19:9; 1 Corinthians 11:23,25)
  2. Don't make excuses (Luke 14:17-21; Isaiah 40:6-8)
  3. There's room for more (Luke 14:22-24; Zechariah 2:8; 1 Peter 1:21-22a)
Luke 14:15-24
15 Hearing this, a man sitting at the table with Jesus exclaimed, "What a blessing it will be to attend a banquet in the Kingdom of God!" 16 Jesus replied with this story: "A man prepared a great feast and sent out many invitations.

Revelation 19:9
9 And the angel said to me, "Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb." And he added, "These are true words that come from God."

1 Corinthians 11:23,25
23 Do this to remember me. 25 In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying...Do this to remember me as often as you drink it.

Luke 14
17 When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to tell the guests, 'Come, the banquet is ready.' 18 But they all began making excuses. One said, 'I have just bought a field and must inspect it. Please excuse me.' 19 Another said, 'I have just bought five pairs of oxen, and I want to try them out. Please excuse me.' 20 Another said, 'I now have a wife, so I can't come.' 21 "The servant returned and told his master what they had said. His master was furious and said, 'Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and invite the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.'

Isaiah 40:6-8
6 A voice said, "Shout!" I asked, "What should I shout?" "Shout that people are like the grass. Their beauty fades as quickly as the flowers in a field. 7 The grass withers and the flowers fade beneath the breath of the LORD. And so it is with people. 8 The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever."

Luke 14:22-24
22 After the servant had done this, he reported, 'There is still room for more.' 23 So his master said, 'Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full. 24 For none of those I first invited will get even the smallest taste of my banquet.'"

Zechariah 2:8 (NKJV)
8 He who touches you touches the apple of His eye.

1 Peter 1:21-22a
21 Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory. 22 You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth.
