DON'T CRY
by Pastor Mike Fortune
October 10, 2015

  1. Jesus buries funerals (Luke 7:11-13; Psalm 56:8; Isaiah 25:8)
  2. Jesus touches lives (Luke 7:14-15; Numbers 19:11,13; 1 Corinthians 15:23,26)
  3. Has Jesus touched your life? (Luke 7:16-17; 2 Timothy 1:9-10; John 20:15) Luke 7:11-13

11 Soon afterward Jesus went with his disciples to the village of Nain, and a large crowd followed him. 12 A funeral procession was coming out as he approached the village gate. The young man who had died was a widow's only son, and a large crowd from the village was with her. 13 When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion. "Don't cry!" he said.

Psalm 56:8
8 You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.

Isaiah 25:8
8 The Sovereign LORD will wipe away all tears. He will remove forever all insults and mockery against his land and people. The LORD has spoken!

Luke 7:14-15
14 Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped. "Young man," he said, "I tell you, get up." 15 Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother.

Numbers 19:11,13
11 All those who touch a dead human body will be ceremonially unclean for seven days. 13 All those who touch a dead body and do not purify themselves in the proper way defile the LORD's Tabernacle, and they will be cut off from the community of Israel.

1 Corinthians 15:23, 26
23 But there is an order to this resurrection: Christ was raised as the first of the harvest; then all who belong to Christ will be raised when he comes back. 26 And the last enemy to be destroyed is death.

Luke 7:16-17
16 Great fear swept the crowd, and they praised God, saying, "A mighty prophet has risen among us," and "God has visited his people today." 17 And the news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding countryside.

2 Timothy 1:9-10 (Scripture)
9 For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus. 10 And now he has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News.

John 20:15
15 "Dear woman, why are you crying?" Jesus asked her.
