SACRIFICE. HAVING THE LAST WORD
by Pastor Mike Fortune
August 31, 2013

The Veron Sisters Tribute (01:33-end)

Sacrifice having the last word...

  1. Without the Word (Hebrews 13:22; 1:1-2; 2:6; 3:3; 4:2; 5:11; 6:1-3; 7:2; 7:25; 8:1; 9:23; 10:14; 11:39; 12:1-2;13:22)
  2. Maturity can feel like losing (Hebrews 13:23; Grace by Max Lucado p.121)
  3. Grace goes with you because Jesus goes with you (Hebrews 13:24-25; John 1:14,16-17; Matthew 26:31-32; Hebrews 12:15)

Hebrews 13:22-25
22 I urge you, dear brothers and sisters, to pay attention to what I have written in this brief exhortation. 23 I want you to know that our brother Timothy has been released from jail. If he comes here soon, I will bring him with me to see you. 24 Greet all your leaders and all the believers there. The believers from Italy send you their greetings. 25 May God's grace be with you all.

Hebrews 1:1-2
1 Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. 2 And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son.

Hebrews 2:6
6 For in one place the Scriptures say, "What are mere mortals that you should think about them, or a son of man that you should care for him?”

Hebrews 3:3
3 But Jesus deserves far more glory than Moses, just as a person who builds a house deserves more praise than the house itself.

Hebrews 4:2
2 For this good news—that God has prepared this rest—has been announced to us just as it was to them. But it did them no good because they didn't share the faith of those who listened to God.

Hebrews 5:11
11 There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don't seem to listen.

Hebrews 6:1-3
1 So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don't need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God. 2 You don't need further instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3 And so, God willing, we will move forward to further understanding.

Hebrews 7:4
4 Consider then how great this Melchizedek was. Even Abraham, the great patriarch of Israel, recognized this by giving him a tenth of what he had taken in battle.

Hebrews 7:25
25 Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.

Hebrews 8:1
1 Here is the main point: We have a High Priest who sat down in the place of honor beside the throne of the majestic God in heaven. 2 There he ministers in the heavenly Tabernacle, the true place of worship that was built by the Lord and not by human hands.

Hebrews 9:23
23 That is why the Tabernacle and everything in it, which were copies of things in heaven, had to be purified by the blood of animals. But the real things in heaven had to be purified with far better sacrifices than the blood of animals.

Hebrews 10:14
14 For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.

Hebrews 11:39
39 All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised.

Hebrews 12:1-2
Let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.

Hebrews 13:22
22 I urge you, dear brothers and sisters, to pay attention to what I have written in this brief exhortation.

Hebrews 13:23
23 I want you to know that our brother Timothy has been released from jail. If he comes here soon, I will bring him with me to see you.

Grace by Max Lucado p. 121
“If God loves you, you must be worth loving. If he wants to have you in his Kingdom, then you must be worth having. God’s grace invites you—no, requires you—to change your attitude about yourself and take sides with God against your feelings of rejection.”

Hebrews 13:24-25
24 Greet all your leaders and all the believers there. The believers from Italy send you their greetings. 25 May God's grace be with you all.

John 1:14,16-17 (NIV)
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Matthew 26:31-32
31 On the way, Jesus told them, "Tonight all of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say, 'God will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.' 32 But after I have been raised from the dead, I will go ahead of you to Galilee and meet you there."

Hebrews 12:15
15 Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God.
